[Let's Talk About Your Child]

Heart Gesture Moment

You know your child best. You may just need a little guidance.

Maybe you're wondering...

Should my toddler be saying more by now?

Why does my child understand so much but say so little?

How can I encourage language without constantly asking them to “say it”?

What should I do when my child becomes frustrated because I don't understand them?

My child uses scripts or repeats phrases—is that communication?

Would AAC help my child, or will it prevent them from talking?

We're already receiving speech therapy. What can I do between sessions?

Parent coaching gives us the space to slow down, look at your child's communication as a whole, and figure out which strategies make sense for your child and your family.

Before We Ask a Child to Communicate More, We Look at How They're Already Communicating.

Every child brings their own communication style, sensory needs, interests, relationships, and experiences into an interaction.

Parent coaching begins with observation—not correction.

Together, we look at what your child is communicating, how they communicate it, what helps them feel connected and regulated, and what may be making communication easier or harder in different environments.

From there, we identify small, meaningful changes that can support communication throughout everyday routines.

Sometimes that means changing the language we model. Sometimes it means slowing down, adjusting the environment, following an interest, offering another way to communicate, or simply recognizing a communication attempt that was already there.

We don't start by asking, “How do we get them to say more?”

We start by asking, “What is this child showing us and how can we meet them there?”

WHAT PARENT COACHING ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Toddler
OBSERVE THE WHOLE CHILD

We look beyond word counts to understand how your child communicates, connects, plays, regulates, and participates.

UNDERSTAND THE ENVIRONMENT

We consider routines, sensory demands, communication partners, expectations, and what may be supporting or getting in the way of communication.

FOLLOW & BUILD

We start with your child's interests and existing communication, then model meaningful next steps without unnecessary pressure.

EMPOWER THE CAREGIVER

You'll learn how to recognize communication, respond intentionally, and make small changes that can support communication throughout everyday life.

The goal isn't to teach you how to conduct speech therapy. It's to help you understand your child's communication differently.

Evidence-Informed. Child-Led. Family-Centered.

No two children communicate in exactly the same way—and support shouldn't look exactly the same either.

My approach combines evidence-based early language strategies with a deep respect for each child's individual communication style, strengths, interests, sensory needs, and relationships. Drawing from my experience as a pediatric speech-language pathologist and former educator, along with specialized training in Hanen More Than Words®, AAC, early language development, and DIR/Floortime® principles, I help families understand not only what strategies to use, but why, when, and how to use them with their child.

Coaching is collaborative, neurodiversity-affirming, and designed to fit into real family life. We follow your child's lead, reduce unnecessary communication pressure, and build from the skills and connection already present.
